My name is Owen Edlen. I will be going into my 13th year of football. Ever since I started it has been my goal to play professional football. I am still working towards that goal. Not only do I work to get better with the opportunities I'm given, but I also want to help my teammates around me get better both on and off the field. This year I was blessed to be a team captain, and would like to be named one again next season. One of my favorite coaches once said to my team "Why would you waste an opportunity to get better"? That is something that really resonated with me. While yes there is always more I could be doing, I try to use the opportunities I am given, to improve my physical, mental, a spiritual self.
Character wise, my first commitment is to God. My faith is something that I take very seriously. I strive to live my life according to Gods will, and obey his word. I believe that it is more important to be approved by God, than it is to be approved by the world. Through my faith, I have learned to treat others with kindness and respect, even when there are disagreements. I want to help make a difference and impact on people. This year I was blessed to have been invited to the Natural Helpers retreat, where I met new people and leaned many important lessons. No matter what I do, I want to do it for the Glory of God.
Athletically, I am a two sport athlete. I play football and do track (Shot Put, Discus, Hurdles). As mentioned earlier, I want to use every opportunity I am given, to get better. I have a goal of playing at the highest level in football and I am willing to work hard to get there. Not only am I motivated but I am also very coachable. I understand the importance of asking coaches questions to gain a better understanding of the game.
Academically, I am on track to graduate with an academic honors diploma. While I don't always feel inspired in a classroom setting, I genuinely do enjoy learning new things and expanding my knowledge. I try to learn something in all that I do. That being said, some of my favorite topics include scripture, history, English, and many different forms of art. Although my passion is football, I make my academics a priority.
