Dear Coaches:
I am a hard-working, student-athlete committed to graduating from college! My hard work in the classroom and on the football field, determination, and goals require me to strive to be my best at all times. Ultimately, I plan to study biology and become a physician’s assistant or study genetics.
Growing up, I played multiple sports, but football became where I could let out emotion and I found that I was pretty good at it. I started playing flag football at the age of 5 at the local YMCA. There, I learned the value of character, teamwork, and commitment.
From playing Y-ball until now, I have sometimes played both ways, but always exceled at been a defensive player. I see my job on the field as being ‘disruptive’. I love it when I can help change the momentum of a game by sacking the quarterback, keeping the other team from getting that last yard for a 1st down, deflecting a pass, or blocking a kick. This year as a senior, I have had opposing team coaches come up to me after games and tell me how they had to change their offensives because I was going to be on the field! I take that as a compliment! While I have been double and triple teamed on most plays, in almost every game this year, I am proud of what I’ve still been able to accomplish. From this experience, I’ve learned that not only can I be disruptive on the field, but in the film room too!
In addition to being a competitive player on the field, I also have worked to be a good leader and role model. By focusing on all these things as a high school player and just trying to do my best, I earned a starting varsity spot as a sophomore, put up noteworthy stats, led the defensive team, and earned various performance, attitude, and sportsmanship awards at a 6A school (Mental attitude and Practice player of the year, 4x Defensive player/lineman of the year, All Conference 1st team, and IHSAA Sportsmanship awards).
I still have a lot to learn about football and my position and I am excited to work with a coaching team and other players who can help me do that. I am also a student-athlete, so being part of a school that can help me achieve my academic goals is also really important to me.
If given the opportunity, I will continue to learn, gain strength, increase my speed, and help a college team win. I will continue to be a leader and role model at the next level, and I will graduate. My hope is to hear from you!
