First of all, thank you for taking the time to get to know me and not just the athlete you see in my films. I am Tyler Hudson and I’m a recruit prospect for the class of 2022. I played tight end, receiver, running back, defensive end and outside linebacker.
A running team, I had to prove myself as a strong blocker. This opportunity taught me the joy of a successful block when you see your teammate running for the endzone. I relished the thought of overpowering my opponent, learning how to take advantage of my quickness and how to use leverage against him. I did have a few catches throughout the year. One distinction that I am proud, as I only had ten pass attempts this year, I caught every one with no drops. Of the catches made, I was brought down one time and that was a dragging effort in which I dragged the defender eight yards before going down. The rest of the time I was pushed out of bounds by multiple defensive players, but yet always stayed on my feet.
My high school football career didn’t go as most of the recruits on this site. I played football as a sophomore, but it was baseball that I received more attention and I decided I should focus on that sport. I garnered a few schools’ attention along the way, but there was always something missing. As a senior, I watched as my year was slipping away. Then, due to covid, our state passed a bill stating that all students in good standing could apply to re-do their year. When news came that I was accepted to do this, I was moved to tears as I knew this was my second chance and I was not going to take it for granted. I then amended my life and choices I had made to that point. This year would give me a chance to live life with no regrets and play with a passion that I had never known before. This fresh start would also be used to revitalize my grades. I needed work on my GPA along with my test scores to prove to myself that I could do it. Now, I have a 3.06 and by the end of the year I should be at a 3.3 GPA. That same determination that I carried into this new year is what I’ll to bring to your team.
August of 2020, a skinny kid at 165 lbs., I decided to go to the gym and start eating right to see how big I could get. I knew I had the bone structure and frame to make this happen. It was the gym where the football coaches started noticing me, watching my determination, week after week. They became a part of my life, teaching me techniques of lifting and giving me instruction on eating to gain weight the right way. It was also during this time that I developed my love for sports nutrition and kinesiology, which I plan to major. Growth in the last two years along with my athleticism and skillset has led me to realize that football is my best opportunity to succeed.
I decided that track would be the catalyst to help propel me into football. By March of 2021, when track & field had rolled around, I had put on 50 pounds of muscle and yet I was still able to keep my speed. Looking at me, the coach said I would be doing discus and shotput, he only saw me as big and strong. A couple of weeks later he had sprint tryouts to determine who his runners were going to be. I got down in the blocks and fired out as fast I could. I hadn’t even gotten done with half of the distance and the coach came up to me excitedly and said, “you’re going to be our best sprinter this year and you’ll come off the starting block for our relay teams too.” From that point on I was running the 100-meter, 200-meter and discus. I then developed a new goal; at the end of track season, I was 0.3 seconds from the 100-meter record set back in 1996. In 2022, my goal will be to break that record and have my name on the wall at school in his place, knowing all the while that I did it at 40 lbs. bigger than he was when he set it. He eventually went on to be a running back at Eastern Kentucky University. I know that I am blessed to have my size and speed every time I’m on the track competing. I look at my competitors knowing that most of them are 150 to 165 pounds, but yet I am somehow able to outrun them. One of my cross-town rivals that I have beaten a couple of times is signed to West Virginia as a running back, it makes me realize that I have a gift at running.
Now, what does all this mean to you? With me, you’re getting a player who knows that he has a lot to learn and is willing to learn every day. I’ve demonstrated that I have the ability to play the game and play it well. How often do you get a player with a clean slate that you can train and mold into the player you want, without the resistance and ego? A talented athlete who happens to be 6’5”, 215 lbs., still growing and has 4.5 speed in the 40. Coaches and teammates referred to me as a freak because of my size and speed which, over time I came to embrace. The schools I have offers from so far want me to continue my growth so that I can achieve 245-250 lbs. If you’re looking for a tight end or hybrid wide receiver with the perfect mix of size and speed, I can fit that mold. I will get bigger, stronger and faster. Also, get used to me being early to the field and late to leave. That’s the training I am accustomed to and it hasn’t let me down yet.
