My name is James Floyd. I’m a 17-year-old Senior at Magee High School. Although my passion is football, I also know that my performance in the classroom is just as important. I’m an honor student with a 90.561 GPA or 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. Not only am I dually enrolled at Copiah Lincoln Community College, but I’m also a student at the Simpson County Technical Center. I successfully completed and received the NCCER certification and ACT Work Keys Silver Award in the 2-year construction program and is now a 2nd year student in the Diesel Technology program there. This has helped me earn a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Endorsement as well as an Academic Endorsement added to my Traditional Mississippi High School Diploma at graduation.
This is my 4th year playing football with Magee Trojans Varsity Football Team. My first 2 years I played safety. The last two years my position has been running back. I’ve always been a special teams player with last year being special teams captain. Our football team celebrated a phenomenal year winning the 3A State Championship with an undefeated 12-0 record making us also 3A District and South State Champs in 2020. I really enjoyed this year’s football season as well. I’m a Senior running back and special teams player for Magee Trojan. I was recently named Player of the Week in our 1st round playoff game against Jefferson County. I had 6 carries for an efficient 68 yards and 2 touchdowns in that game. On November 1st, 2021, I was awarded the 2021 Heisman Scholarship Magee High School Winner by Acceptance Insurance. I was also just recently selected for 2nd Team All Region 6-3A Award. Now that the season is over, I have plans to continue competing with the Trojans’ Powerlifting Team as I have for the last 3 years. I even received the silver medal for placing 2nd in my weight class competition in February 2019.
After graduation, I plan to attend college to play football as a scholarship athlete or as a walk on. I would also like to pursue a career in vehicle graphics and web design which is part of my long-term goal as a wrap apprentice installer and marketer and/or pursue a career utilizing the certifications gained at Simpson County Technical Center. Although that’s my goal, I’m still undecided when it comes to my major.
My realistic athletic goals are to continue playing the sport that I love at a highly competitive level, to make an impact on the team, and to be a great example to those after me. What I can offer a team is the promise to always work hard and never give up. Just knowing I made a difference and tried my best would keep a smile on my face. I’m open to different options when it comes to choosing schools. I’m open minded about colleges and hope to find a college that fits me best. It feels good knowing that no matter what college I attend, I will work as hard in the classroom as I do on the football field. My education and success are very important to me!
