My name is Jack Kurzu, and I play on the offensive line as a tackle or guard. I am 6'4" and weigh 305lbs.
I have played at the varsity level since my freshman year, and have had the somewhat unique opportunity to play for two high school football teams who made it to the State Championships, in two different states – Florida and Missouri.
I am from St. Louis originally, and was the only freshman to make the varsity team at MICDS (4A).
My family relocated to Florida during the summer of my sophomore year, and I attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School (5A) in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Recognizing the powerhouse program of Aquinas, I trained hard to be ready, and was able to acheive my goal of making varsity and earning a varsity letter.
Due to a job change, my family returned to St. Louis and I was reunited with my former MICDS team as a junior where I started on offense and on occasion, defense.
While at St. Thomas Aquinas, I had the opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches, and play along side some the country’s best talent, and I just soaked it all in. I learned to play any position on the offensive line equally well so that I could contribute where needed. The STA Raiders experienced a 15-0 season along with the following achievements:
• 2010 National Champions
• 2010 Powerade ESPN Rise Fab 50
• 2010 5A Florida State Champions
• 2010 National Prep Football Poll National Championship
I am perhaps most proud the performance of my current team during this past season when the MICDS Rams were able to achieve a 14-1 record, losing only in the State championship game. This team had incredible heart, and never gave up even in come-from-behind or double overtime situations. I averaged 7 pancakes per game, and was honored to be recognized for my contributions with the following personal post-season awards as a junior:
I have not yet taken the SAT or ACT, however I do have a strong academic record:
• 3.5/4.0 GPA (unweighted)
• Principal's Honor Roll (St. Thomas Aquinas)
• Elliott Award for Character and Leadership (as voted by students, faculty and staff)
I have grown up with a perspective that sports provide intellectual as well as physical challenge as my great grandfather, father and sister were all D-1 collegiate scholar-athletes. I hope to find a school that offers an exceptional educational experience, as well as an athletic program rich in competitive tradition so that I may follow in their footsteps and make a positive contribution to my team and to society.
I am happy to live anywhere in the country, and would be honored if you would consider me as a prospect for your program. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Jack Kurzu
