"I am focused on being the best student athlete I can be and putting in the extra effort to always be successful and make my team successful”. This is a statement made by most players, but here is what I have done to follow through.
Over the past few months most high school athletes have been shut out of their team facilities and gyms due to Covid-19. I worked with my strength coach and moved a platform and weights to set up a lifting station in my garage so I could continue with my program. By working with my coach through texts and videos I have increased my max in all lifts, improved my athletic ability and stayed on course to be ready for the fall football season.
During quarantine I also took advantage of study time and assistance offered by teachers from our high school. I was able to complete the spring semester with a 3.94 gpa and improved my overall gpa to a 3.56. I feel that by being held responsible to turn work in on time without a regimented schedule I was able to get a feel for college academics and responsibilities and be better prepared for college.
Playing center is usually not what most kids dream of when they are young, but when the coaches told me I was needed there as a sophomore I jumped at the challenge, and I haven’t looked back. I love playing on the defensive side of the ball but I know the team needs me at center, and, I know I am versatile enough to play in any role a coach thinks I am the best fit. I just want to play football and be a part of a team.
I look forward to meeting new coaches, players and staff and furthering my academic and athletic career at the next level.
