I have been a football player and a wrestler for as long as I can remember. I have been able to take two completely different sports and utilize them to help lead me in life both on and off the field. Football has also served as a motivator and for years, my end goal has been to play at the collegiate level. I would like to play at a school where I am an integral part of the football team while also establishing a great network of peers. Football is a team sport that taught me how to put differences aside and to work towards a common goal, which right now is a state championship. Wrestling is more of an individual sport, and oftentimes when you step on the mat, the guy across from you will be stronger or bigger. This part of the wrestling world has taught me how to overcome adversity, put hardships aside, focus on my main aspirations and do whatever it takes to achieve such goals.
Following my junior year of football season, I did not receive any athletic honors. I choose not to dwell on this as I led my team in sacks and had many other contributions on both sides of the ball. This only serves as yet another thing to motivate me going into my senior year. I ended my junior of wrestling season by earning 1st place in Districts; placing in Regions; qualifying for States; making 2nd Team All Conference and will continue to push for additional athletic and academic honors.
I would like to end my athletic high school career with the following: a football state championship while continuing to be a role model/leader for the underclassmen and being remembered in the locker room for years to come. As I continue to grow, my parents have served as huge role models and have created a strong support system that gives me the opportunity to work for these goals both in and out of the classroom. They have also taught me a very important lesson/value: there is a difference between likeability and leadership. My father served as my youth coach and he showed me how to perfectly draw the line between doing what is best for the team and getting the team to bond with each other. I am now able to use these lessons today as I aim to lead by example for the underclassmen.
