Personal Statement

Dear Coach, My Name is Patrick David Bookman of Bishop Watterson High school in Columbus, Ohio. I could tell you about all of my athletic abilities and all I have done in the past, but those stats are on paper. I would like to tell you 1st about the kind of person I am, so you know me a little bit better before I write my name down on a paper agreeing to attend your school. I am a born leader and always have been a leader. If i'm not leading my brothers on the field, I'm leading off the field. I feel that God gave me leadership for a reason, and I use it to the best of my abilities for the right reasons. I have been told in the past by parents I am one of the more mature kids that they have ever met. I don't drink and I don't smoke or do any other type of drug, I hold myself above that. It would kill my family if I ever did such a thing. I have dedicated my life to Football and my Family. I have been told be countless football, basketball, lacrosse, boxing, and track coaches that I am one of the MOST coachable athletes they have ever worked with. I work my butt off to be the best player and person I can be on and off the field. Many of times my team has unfortunently quit during games and I have been the one who refused to quit. I was voted team captain of my Freshman football team (Freshman are not allowed to play JV or Varsity). I have had coaches come to me and hug me after games and whisper into my ear "I wish I had 10 more players out on that field like you". My family is the #1 priority to me (besides the lord) and I owe everything to them. My mother a Baker and my Father a teacher, money is hard to come by. Needless to say, I'm shooting for a scholarship. I want to graduate, get a great job and buy my mother the house of her dreams. I work so hard at life and sports for the purpose of being a better person and the hope of playing college football. After my 8th grade Football Season at Nelsonville-York Middle school in Nelsonville, Ohio. I received a call from a Family friend who belonged to a scholarship group at Columbus Bishop Watterson High school. After talking to him and spending countless hours thinking, my family decided to pack up and move an hour away to Columbus to attend Bishop Watterson High School. I acquired over 800 all purpose yards (Rushing/Receiving/Kick Returning/and Passing) 43 solo tackles. 13 tackles for loss. 7 sacks. I am about 6'1" 176 My best 40 was a 4.68 and my best shuttle was a 4.4 and I slid (at NUC Ultimate 100). Vert of 31.5, Broad of 8'6". I have been told by coaches I am "pound for pound" one of the hardest hitters they have ever coached. I finished 6th in the 2009 Middle School State of Ohio 100 meter dash. Invites to Ultimate 100 combine my 8th grade and freshman year. Invite to Football University this past year. I am looking for a bigger college due to my need of a scholarship and I feel I have the ability to play top of the line football. I am not satisfied with my stats and numbers, I feel I have better game speed than combine speed (which could be a plus and a negative). Although I feel I have division 1 ability, I am open to anything. I want to play top of the line football, I want to be the player kids look up to for the right reasons. An impact on and off the field. I look up to Tim Tebow, and want to follow in foot prints of a man like him. I am interested in a coach who is going to be a good father figure to me, and I will feel comfortable with. I hope this letter was found conveinient to you and your staff and that you now see what kind of person and player I am. Thank you so much for your time. Yours Truely, Patrick Bookman.
