Sports have always been a big part of my life. I started at the age of 3 playing soccer and continued to play throughout Junior High. At the age of 4 I began gymnastics and by the time I was 6 the gym wanted me to join the team, and I played Basketball from age 5 through to my Freshman year, however, football has always been my passion. I started playing football when flag football was the only football offered for my age group and I haven't stopped playing since. Now here I am about to enter my Senior Year and I still love the game. Though not just the game, it is also everything that comes with it, the life lessons it teaches you along the way, the bonds of a brotherhood that can't be explained and will never be broken. Like a well oiled machine, that team needs to work together to accomplish a single goal and the only way to do that is to depend on and trust each other. I have learned a lot about myself and I have football to thank for that. This sport, my team and my coaches have taught me responsibility not only to myself but to the team. To show up and show out no matter what. To know that statement holds a lot of weight but meaning it. To be present and focused for myself, my team and my coaches and together face whatever comes our way. It taught me accountability -doing what you say you're going to do and doing it to the best of your ability and when you make a mistake, being able to admit it, face it, fix it and learn from it.
It taught me to be humble when we win and gracious when we lose and that there is a lesson to be learned in both circumstances. It gives me a chance to be part of something bigger than myself. It has given me a strong work ethic both on the field and off. It showed me that being a team player and being coachable is as important as being a leader and stepping out on that field every time reminds me of how far I've come as a person and a player and I couldn't imagine life without it which is why I'm so committed to doing everything I can to play football in college.
