Football has always been a significant part of my life. Since I can remember, I would throw the ball with my dad and later my siblings, as they were introduced to the sport. Over the years, playing catch grew into something larger. My family and I began to practice routes, learn base defenses and develop an overall understanding of the game. While I was developing into a quarterback my siblings (currently 12 and 14 years old) were learning wide receiver positions. My introduction to the game of football led to more family time. Little did I know it was going to be a foundation that I would rely on in the coming years. When my parents divorced it was football that I was able to fall back on. It was the support of my coaches, teammates, lifting partners and the entire football family that would provide me the continued balance that I needed to succeed. The routine, workouts, and maturation gave me purpose. It was also football that would bring my family together. Although changes were happening around me and were out of my control, the throwing sessions, route running and simple enjoyment of family time continued. I have developed well beyond that kid playing catch in the backyard, but when I ask myself why I want to play football at the next level... it's relatively simple. For me, football is my family in so many ways beyond the turf.
