I am far from a normal football player. I have played many sports, but football has always been my favorite. I played flag football in middle school, and I also ran track. My father would not allow me to play tackle football, even though I am always told I am aggressive and fast. I didn’t really care if i was not aloud to play in a real game, I wanted to play football even if it meant I had to wait.
So my sophomore year I started training with a varsity football team. I told the coach I couldn’t play, but he still let me get reps and lifting in with the team. Now, two years later I am about to go into my first and only high school season-because I will be 18 this summer. I started training for the QB position because all our senior QBs graduated and I always loved playing that position. But now playing QB has become something more.
I am a leader. And right now my HS team needs a leader. I have stepped into that role on and off the field. During the past months after the Virus outbreak, I went straight to work finding ways to get better-and most importantly-to help those around me get better. I recruited two brothers to play for our team this last season, and they started multiple positions. (They had never played football). I made a workout program for a guy that that didn’t have a gym. I used to be small. But, since last late-spring, I put on about 20 pounds of muscle. I am a Hard Gainer. I had to work through a lot of my diet and lifting issues to get where I am. It has been a huge struggle, especially not having my parents supporting me in my goals. I get asked how many offers I have when Im practicing or at summer camps. And it’s sad, because I just have to look them in the eye and tell them I’m not aloud to play yet. But I know my day is coming.
I work multiple jobs to pay for my car, phone, clothes, and extra training. I run my life on a hectic schedule to get better at each and every part of my life. I wish I had some things easier, but I refuse to give up. I am ok with playing special teams or any other position if I need to learn QB better. I am ok with playing defense, and I have practiced some safety and linebacker.
I am taking the ACT again this spring.
If you read this far, thank you, I really appreciate it.
