I have been playing football since I was eleven. I love the competition and being a part of a team. Over the years I have played quarterback, wide receiver and safety. I have been blessed with speed. Between sixth grade and ninth grade I played quarterback. I enjoyed quarterback because it taught me to see the game from many viewpoints. I had to know what each offensive player was to be doing on each play. On pass plays I had to learn to read the different defenses, which also helps me know which route to run as a receiver. Going into my freshman year of high school, I was one of two freshman who moved up to the varsity squad. I spent the year as the third string quarterback. At the start of my sophomore year our coaches moved me to wide receiver to take advantage of my speed. In my two years as a starting wide receiver I have had individual success breaking school records. However, individual success is not nearly as important to me as team success. We win as a team and lose as a team. Nothing compares to the feeling of winning as a team. We have won our league and made it to the district title game the past two years. But, we have been defeated each of those years in the title game. And while it hurt to lose, it motivates us to train harder. Our goals this year are the same as before – win our rivalry game, win our league, have an undefeated regular season, win districts and win states. Knowing how close we have come makes us hungry for success. We know we have what it takes to achieve our goals. We just need to become closer as a team. We need to be able to understand every move our teammates make, and when they will make them. I cannot wait to see our team grow and come closer and closer to each of our goals.
