My name is James Murphy, I am a senior from Barrington, Rhode Island, class of 2014. Barrington High School is a Division I football school that competes with many private schools and won the D1 State Championship in 2005 and 2009. During my two years with the varsity football team I have started both years FB/RB/WR, then added OLB onto my resume this past junior season. Rarely is there a time where I am not on the field, as I was also a big part of our special teams contributing as both KR and PR. The thing that makes me stand out is my natural ability to lead, while soft spoken I lead by example. Through all of the training and dedication I put in the off season, I was voted captain by my peers last year as a junior as well as this year; only the second time in history there has been a two time varsity captain. Junior year I was named to 1st team all-league (RB), named most valuable back and junior by my team, also qualifying again for the second consecutive year to the all-state academic team.
I have challenged myself in the academically accelerated Barrington High School, achieving an unweighed GPA of 3.33/4.0 which is rising each semester. I have challenged myself by taking the highest level in every class which I have taken, and accelerate in science and mathematics. This year I am currently taking AP Government, and next year plan to add potentially four more AP classes (Calculus, Statistics, Literature, and US History). Playing college football while earning a degree is my dream and first priority. I have worked hard academically as well as physically to achieve my goals of being a student athlete. I like schools with high academic standards, on the smaller side, but I’m open to all types of schools.
The reason why I would be a good student-athlete prospect for any college is my ability to lead, athletic performance/ability, academics, and over all competitiveness. I hate to lose in anything and love the thrill of competing; this drive makes we work extremely hard and if given the honor to play in college, I would give everything into starting and being a contributor to the team.
