Devon Cox '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is Devon Cox and I attend Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville, Tennessee. I started playing football my junior year in high school and started varsity that same year. Our team recovered from a 1-9 season the year before to achieve a 7-4 record making it to the first round of playoffs. I had sixty tackles on the season and three interceptions, one of which was caught in the endzone as time expired to win a rivalry game. I received All- District honors in my first season with the help of our new defensive back coach Gabe Myers and also Player of the week honors. A great player is not made by what they do on the field, but by the effort and hard work they put into their goal off the field. I put one hundred percent effort into every repetition at practice and every snap in the game. An athlete can never take a play off at any level. I put extra time into the weight room whenever I can because I realize how much football demands out of the body. Running extra sprints when you are tired and lifting more weight when your body is pushed to the limit is the key to sucsess. I grew up watching the greatest athletes in the world play football and it has always been my dream to play at a high level whether it be collegiately or if I am blessed enough, professionally. The type of schools that I am interested in are schools with a good sense of pride and have a good atmosphere around them. I would prefer a larger school with more students and a school that has a good reputation for academics. I know football does not last forever, so it is important that I receive a good education. Of course it is every athletes dream to play Divisin 1 sports and that has been my dream and goal, but I am open to all types of schools. Anywhere I am lucky enough to be on the schools football team, I will work my hardest to make an impact on the team playing whatever position the coach tells me to play.
