My name is Joshua Matta and I go to a small town West Texas high school called Balmorhea where we play six-man football. Six-man football out here is the sport that all of us love in West Texas. We may not be big enough for eleven man, but we work our butts off just as much as them or the next guy. It really gives us that playing chance and gives us hope that we may go on and one day play in college, just like I hope to do. I know things are way different in eleven man, but I am ready to take it to the next level. I'm a quick learner and it won't take me long to catch on the rules and regulations of the eleven man pace I guess you could say. I just want the opportunity to take my skills and abilities to the next level and work hard, stay dedicated, and get stronger everyday.
I was a FB and DE my Jr. year. I was All-State Honorable Mention for the FB position, All-District FB, and First Team All-Region FB. We made history by making it to the third round, which hasn't been done in our school in 16 years! My Sr. year I was WR and MLB for my team and these were really my strongest positions because I had great hands and I could really attack to the ball. I was First-Team All-District WR, First-Team All-District MLB, and Second-Team All-Region WR. Unfortunately for my last season we didn't make it past the first round in the playoffs, so I didn't get to have a better chance of being recognized for All-State. However, I was selected to play in the All-Star game in Wichita Falls this summer in July, so I was pretty happy with that.
The goals that I am focusing on right now are my medium term goals, which are going to college, getting a degree in my field of study, and play college sports. Right now I am indecisive in what I want to major in that's why I am going to take my basics first. I kind of have and idea in what i want to major in, which is science for applied physics.
I commit to hard work, dedication, and bettering myself. I want to succeed and excel in what I do. I love to be a leader for my team, and I hope that they look up to me and become a leader themselves. I like to try to make things fun in what I'm doing. Out on the field, court, or track I am always trying to make people laugh and have fun in what I do. When it comes down to serious business though, I am very serious and focused on what needs to be done. I am the same way in academics in the classroom.
