"Charles, what are you? " "Mom, I'm a leader!" Ever since I can remember my mother would ask me this question every day. She would then have me pray the Lord's Prayer.
Qualities that make a strong leader have been instilled in me since my childhood. I challenge myself to conquer every drill with practice, hard work, and dedication. For example, my mother accompanied me to a Texas Showcase. After watching me take the lead on each drill my mother suggested "to get a better time, you should let someone else go first; that would put you at the advantage because you will have a better idea of what to do." I laughed and said. "Mom, what are you?" Leaders go first. Unafraid to lead by example, I give 100 percent at practice, combines, camps, the park, and church events with the goal of leading others in a positive direction with humility. Not only do I lead in the area of sports, but in my personal life as well. I have been approached and pressured to take drugs, drink alcohol, and have sex; but I have made the decision to remain abstinent. Some people laughed because of the decision I have made. Some people have questioned my thinking, my girlfriend included, but the good part about is that although some laughed, others have followed my example.
Furthermore, as I look to furthering my education in college, my goals are to discover and pursue areas that I am passionate about academically in addition to being the best defensive player to have ever played college football. However, part of being a good leader is recognizing your weaknesses. In all honesty, I struggle with test taking, but I made the decision to unplug my video game and increase my study time to improve in this area. In looking forward to my academic career, I understand the need to be self-disciplined and excel in my studies as well as football and I am gaining the tools necessary to excel in both. Even though my style of play is warrior; if coach ask me to play gap (soldier), I play gap. I defend the fort. I promise you that my videos on my profile want show warrior, but it will demonstrate gap (discipline) before going to get tackle; I wasn't allowed to go get the ball so I remain discipline. I have been blessed with a quick step that will get me in the back field in four, no need for five. People who have seen this type of "go get the ball Charles" knows this is true.
In conclusion, I have made significant contributions to each team that I have played on. It all started back as a kid, where some of my greatest and fondest memories of football began. I remember winning 6 youth league championships with four different teams. I once had 21 tackles out of 32 plays. I have always been a starter since I started playing the game of football. More recently, as a junior in high school, O'Connor advanced to the quarter finals undefeated. Having seniors playing in front of me taught me humility and showed me that talent is also associated with patience. One of the most important things I've learned about attending a Division I 6A school is you must have patience until it's your time to shine. With that being said, I am looking for a program that is going to nurture my leadership characteristics and help me to excel mentally, physically and spiritually. As a three-sport athlete and a four-time captain, I know what it takes to get the job done and I am looking forward to being a leader on your team!
