Ever since little league, I have had a growing passion for the game of football. One of my most memorable moments as a kid is when I was the last defender to tackle the ball-carrier at the one-yard line which stopped the opposing team from scoring. Still today, as a Junior at Jacksonville High School, I hold that same persistence and excitement to never give up on any challenge.
My name is Calvin Boyd. I’m a defensive nose tackle and an offensive right guard. Playing on both sides of the field has improved my football intelligence and awareness. I have the hand placement and footwork for strong blocking power. I also have the elusiveness and strength for getting past blockers. My ability to listen and give input allows me to collaborate with my teammates and follow through with decisions on the field. I lead by example, and I am hard working because when I have a goal I stay on track on the path to success. My family calls me the “Comeback Kid” because of my resilience and determination. I have learned the importance of teamwork in playing sports. During a tough season, I motivated my team to keep pushing through the adversity.
In addition to my work on the field, I have been diligent in my studies. I have maintained an A average throughout high school, and I have developed study skills, discipline, and confidence to understand and perform responsibilities while also knowing when to ask for help. My success in academics allows me to prepare for college and my future career in Zoology.
I am also involved in other sports and activities including Powerlifting and Track and Field Shot Put and Discuss. I have been a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA), Key Club, and National Honor Society. I have participated in gathering donations for food, clothing, and toy drives, made cards for nursing homes residents on special occasions, and read books to elementary school classes. Giving to the community is important to me because I want to treat others how I want to be treated, and it’s from my faith and the kindness of my heart to give to others in need. I earn respect by giving respect. I believe that my character is a part of everything that I do.
I believe that my athletic ability, physical and mental endurance, and my overall positive mindset make me a great prospect as a collegiate level player.
