I had the opportunity to start as wide receiver (1st Team All Regional) with a great team this year. Prior to this, I played DB at Westbrook High School for two years. Currently, I am participating in the basketball program at my high school and devoting extra hours in my week to football conditioning/drills. Having watched both my mom and dad (retired schoolteacher and navy veteran)overcome great challenges, sacrifice and work hard for what they want in life, I too am inspired to do the same. Enhancing my skills in the off season for the game I truly love and maintaining good grades are my top priorities. My ultimate ambition is to connect with a university that combines my two favorite subjects, Sports and Architecture, in hopes to accomplish my academic and athletic goals at the collegiate level.
Since my elementary years, I’ve enjoyed football. The experiences, the energy, the environment and valuable life lessons that the game brought (teamwork, time management, discipline, goal setting, and most of all, perseverance and handling setbacks,) became a part of who I am. During the beginning of my junior year, a residency rule landed me ineligible to play at the Varsity level. Having to endure the physical separation of my parents and not being able to play Varsity sports at the new school taught me a lot about myself. I learned that life is not always fair but to stay disciplined, focused, connected, and continue to strive to prepare to be my best until the opportunity came. I observed each practice, traveled and watched all games/film and worked on conditioning and specific drills on my own time. When my senior year came around, some positions were accounted for, but I worked hard to gain the position as starting wide receiver. And though I was not targeted as much as I was open, I was able to make big plays/touchdowns when the ball came my way and help propel my team to the playoff rounds. But even greater than that, I became a part of something bigger than myself and the obstacles I faced. I became part of a brotherhood and bond.
As mentioned above, my desire is to continue playing the game that I truly love at the collegiate level. I will work hard, applying the valuable lessons football has taught to help reach the football program’s goal while also accomplishing mine. If given this great privilege and dream to play at the collegiate level, I will give it all I have both on and off the field, expanding my potential and obtaining an Architectural degree. I strongly feel that I have the personal character, team sportsmanship, work ethic, and passion for the game of football to be a great asset where the program is a good fit for me, and I’m a good fit for the program.
