My name is Kammon Uluave, and my aspiration to become a college football athlete is driven by my desire to secure a sufficient means to pay for college. My ultimate goal is to earn a full-ride scholarship to a college of my choosing, all of which will follow my LDS mission that I plan to serve in the months after graduation.
Throughout my life, I've embraced leadership opportunities both in my daily life and on the football field. I had the honor of being the team captain for my freshman football team during the 2023-24 season. Although I have not yet played varsity, I plan to get some reps in during my sophomore year. Following my freshman season, I was privileged to be selected for the Utah Freshman All-Star Team, an experience for which I am deeply grateful.
Academically, I strive for excellence. I aim to enroll in honors classes and push myself to the mental limit. I achieved a 3.9 GPA during my freshman year, reflecting my commitment to academic success. As a leader and captain on my team, I take pride in pushing my teammates and myself to be the best we can be. I believe in mutual support and encouragement, and I lead by example, always emphasizing that football is a team sport where no single player can win it all.
During my freshman season, I played both slot receiver and strong safety. As the season progressed, I felt confident in my abilities at both positions, making significant contributions on offense with great catches and touchdowns, and on defense with key tackles and interceptions. However, midway through the season, I was informed that I could no longer play offense. This decision was not due to a lack of athletic ability but because my coaches saw potential in me at safety that I had not recognized myself. Heartbroken, I approached my coaches in tears, seeking to understand what I had done wrong and how I could improve. They reassured me that my leadership and strength were needed on the defensive side.
That evening, as I sat in my room, I felt a prompting from my Father in Heaven that this was the position I needed to play. Embracing this new role, I excelled as a safety, helping to lead my team through the season's ups and downs. I even had the opportunity to practice with the varsity squad, learning and observing as they honed their craft.
Today, I continue to work tirelessly for a safety position on the varsity roster. Although nothing is set in stone, I firmly believe I am in the right place. Every day, I strive harder and harder to achieve my ultimate goal of earning a full-ride scholarship to a Division I college.
Sincerely,
Kammon Uluave
