My name is Ethan Ivan and I go to Wilmot Union High School in the small town of Wilmot, Wisconsin. I am unlike any other 6’2, 300 pound lineman you will meet in high school. I have grown up with a musically gifted, single mom and though I have her unwavering support, she is far from being an athlete. I am the oldest of 5 children, so I often help take care of my younger siblings. I have grown up without a father or father figure. I have never had a dad coach a team I was on, work on any skills in any sport, or even play catch with me in the yard. I have come from nothing in the sports world and I have paved my own way to obtain the successes I have thus far. My mother instilled in me the importance of hard work and character. I work hard for everything I am, everything I earn, and everything I will become. Late in my freshman year of high school, God blessed me with an incredible male role model, my football team’s defensive coordinator, Brian Hopkins. He is an advocate for me on and off of the field and pushes me beyond what I thought possible in all aspects of my life.
On the field, I primarily play nose guard and have been a leading force as an inside defensive lineman since my freshman year of high school. While my stats don’t speak for my true ability, coaches from other teams in our conference must scheme against me and have 2-4 guys block me in order to stop me from getting to their quarterback. I have started as a varsity defensive lineman since my freshman year of high school and in my current year, I play both sides of the ball as the starting nose tackle and center. I was named Second Team All- Conference and First Team All- County my sophomore year of high school. Just recently, as a junior year, I was named Pre-Season Second Team All- State Defensive Line in Wisconsin, First Team All Conference, and First Team All County. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, we were only able to play four games in the 2020/21 season.
Outside of high school sports, I am part of the theater program at my high school. I am also part of the leadership club, Link Crew, as well as a member of FEA (Future Educators of America). In my school, I am a teacher assistant for students with special needs. I also have a weekend job. I aspire to be a well rounded individual, always keeping doors open for new opportunities.
A quote I live by is “Be so good they can’t ignore you.” I write that quote at the top of tests, on my game cleats, it’s hanging on my wall in my bedroom, and soon I plan on having it permanently inked on my body as a constant reminder of where I am going. This is a motto I plan on living by for the rest of my life. Through my hard work, dedication, and resilience, I am confident I will be unstoppable. In believing this and living this, I can’t go wrong having this mindset in everything I do.
A kid like me and in my position needs one single chance. I will work hard academically, emotionally, and physically to be the very best version of myself when I am in college and beyond. Consider giving me this chance… you won’t be disappointed.
