My name is Maguire Hamey, I’m from Anchorage, Alaska and I love the game of basketball. I have been playing since I was in 2nd grade and started playing competitively in 3rd grade. I come from a basketball family and have been around the game my whole life. My dad played in college and he is the one who got me interested in the game, coached me from 2nd to 8th grade and taught me how to play. He is the main reason why I love to play basketball. Another reason is Kevin Durant, he is my all-time favorite player and I try to model my game after his. As far as my strengths go, I would say my all around versatility. I’m a guy who can do everything on the court from ball handling and passing to rebounding and shot blocking. and whatever a coach needs. My biggest strengths are shot creation and shooting off the catch and rebounding and shot blocking. I was one of the top shot blockers in the state this past season. Another strength is I am a great teammate and thrive in a team setting. I love my teammates and whether it’s bringing energy or lifting my teammates up, it’s something I focus on and am good at. As far as academics go, I want to major in either structural or civil engineering. I am good at problem solving and critical thinking. I also did two years of German and got 3rd place in the 2020 Anchorage World Languages Declamation. I want to play college basketball because I love the game and have put so much work in to be able to get to the next level. I also want to make my family, my hometown and my home state proud. I am extremely excited to get to work and take my game to new heights!
