My name is Callum Yocum, I am 18 years of age, and currently graduated. I have very high goals and aspirations in my life, taking my life into the medical field and become a dermatologist is one of my very high aimed goals. I am a hard worker, currently holding a 3.6 GPA unweightd. I strive to do my best in school and on the court. Starting from a young age, I did my best to get good at what activity or sport I was competing in. Putting in hours of work on the side and after practice is something I do, working on every aspect of my game. I was fortunate enough to have parents who pushed me to be the very best version of myself; making sure I was keeping up on my grades and putting in enough time in my current sport. As I grew up I was able to play multiple sports, in highschool and with club teams; including basketball, football, cross country, volleyball, and competive soccer. When I hit high school and had to make the decision of which winter sport I enjoyed more, basketball or soccer. I have a very strong passion for the game of basketball, starting at the age of 7 I couldn't find anything I loved more. My coaches have truly helped me to develop into the player and person I am now, being able to help and train me for the 1000's of hours that they did I am truly fortunate. They taught me to value hard work, having a strong moral character, being a generous and good teammate, and most of all to balance my sports, family and school work as best I can.
The thing that separates me from others is the fact that I look at most things, including basketball, at a different angle and point of view. I try to see everything; from setting up an offense to making sure the defense we are playing is good enough to stop the the other team from scoring for multiple processions in a row. I do whatever it takes to win; whatever the coach asks of me on the court I strive to do it to my best effort and to perfection. I try to focus my game on playmaking and defense, even though I can shoot the ball at a pretty consistent rate and penetrate to the rim well, I try to make sure our team gets the best possible shot off. My court vision is something I value a lot and one of the key elements of my game, which contributes to my playmaking. Off the court, I try to watch as much games and film as I can because I'm truly a student of the game. I would be honored to become a member of any team that feels like I deserve a spot with them. I will put in as much hard work and effort into academics and sports to be a productive and strong member of the campus and program.
I will be serving an LDS mission from 2022-2024. I would love to come into contact with any scouts or colleges that may be interested when I return.
