I am a person who is dedicated to learning and performing athletically. I wear hearing aids because I am slightly hearing impaired, but it has never stopped me from accomplishing my goals. Hearing impairment never significantly impacted my athletic performance, however academically, I can sometimes struggle to hear something and I don't hold back on communicating that with my teacher. Communication is something I pride myself on in almost every aspect of my life, whether it is hyping up my teammates before a big game or being proactive about my hearing loss to my teacher.
As this statement is being updated during the Covid-19 Pandemic, I feel like adding this paragraph is really important. I lost focus on my future at the beginning of quarantine as my plan for spring basketball was shut down. I was not working out at all because of a lack of motivation to develop my skills since showcases, tournaments, camps and other events were cancelled. I eventually regained my footing and I began to work harder than ever before. I was also more motivated to play the game of basketball as a way to escape from what is going on outside of basketball. Basketball has always given me a way to tone out any issues that are going on in my life temporarily, and it helps me refocus whenever I feel like I am in a bad mental state.
