My name is Malachi Hogg-Madden. I was introduced to playing recreational basketball with my stepdad at the age of 7 years old. We would play once a week as a means of calming me down and allowing me to transition to my mother's house after a weekend visit with my dad. That bond and relationship sparked my interest in a sport that I would now love to pursue in collegiate and possibly overseas endeavors.
With that said, playing basketball has allowed me to transition into a young man that knows how to overcome life's challenges, while at the same time embracing the many blessings that life has afforded me.
My first experience on an organized team was my freshman year, in which I was the main starter, playing the small forward position. This further ignited the drive to succeed at the sport by any means necessary. I averaged approximately 8 points per game 6 rebounds and 1 assist. During my sophomore year I played junior varsity at various positions ranging from the 1 - 5 . I was a regular starter that averaged 14 points per game, 5 rebounds, and 3 assist. Overall, my leadership skills , remaining positive, and focused has allowed our team to be competitive throughout the season.
Despite having approximately 2 seasons of playing basketball, my skills, competitiveness, and determination, have allowed me to compete and train with some of the highest ranked people in my city. Reflecting back on my first two years I now realize that if I were not in my head as much, overall analyzing and proving my worth, I had the potential to play varsity during my sophomore year.
I have practiced and have developed, strong dribbling skills, my basketball I.Q. has increased, I am quick and have the endurance to perform well at high intensity practices with a smile on my face. I am very coachable and will embrace constructive criticism if it entails me becoming a better player to help my team win a game.
Off the court, I focus on increasing my overall GPA of 3.1 to at least a 3.5. Also, I volunteer by tutoring student via zoom.
