My name is Neville Richardson, class of 2021. I am truly passionate about Basketball because it gives me the platform to express myself. I believe the way you play and engage your coaches mirror your lifestyle. Success is earned by a whole group of people working toward a common goal through adversity. Although I am usually amongst the youngest on my team, I've triumphed over great adversity in my own life. This resilient spirit translates to sports.I have a strong work ethic and leadership qualities that push me to be accountable and hold my teammates accountable. I know I can outsmart and outwork anyone and put my team in the best position to succeed. I am extremely coachable because I never want to miss an opportunity to better myself in whatever role I must play at the moment. I enjoy setting the tone and pace of the game to give my team the best opportunity to win.Although I am capable of playing and defending on the perimeter I consider the paint my home on both ends of the court.I excel at scoring from the post and passing out of the double teams. I crash the offensive and defensive boards with intelligent physicality, footwork and anticipation. I pride myself when it comes to defending the paint by blocking or altering shots.I can control the game without ever taking a shot by giving my team extra possessions.
Playing multiple sports (Football and Basketball) has given me great insight on impacting my team's success.I can do this with or without the ball by engaging my teammates on and off the court/field. I know there are things that translate to every sport. Those things include understanding the game within the game and being mentally and physically prepared. Paying attention to detail and finishing the play even if a teammate doesn't fulfill his role. This allows you to encourage each other and lead by example. Constant communication is extremely powerful between coaches, players, medical staff and anyone supporting the process. Lastly you have to visualize your desired results before you can consistently execute them. These practices and habits contribute to my success.
Team success will always be most important to me, but I do have some individual accomplishments I can share. I won an MVP award at the Bay Area Sports MLK Basketball tourney, with most of competition being a couple years older than me. I know I'm an essential piece in the success of every team I join and when I join a team, my impact is felt. One example is my first year playing with St. Mary Basketball we made the state champion which had never happened in our school's history. Similarly my first year playing with my AAU travel team we made it to the the championship game at the Adidas Gauntlet. I make an impact on and off the court and I know I can help your team go further than ever before.
I am looking for a family with great values and commitment to excellence. I have a lot to learn and I want a program where I am learning from great people, coaches, players and faculty. I am excited to realize my potential and I am patient enough to see it though until to the end.
