Personal Statement

Hello,

My name is Mathew James Pina, current senior at Calexico High School. I am currently the starting point guard for Calexico High School Basketball; I am 5'8 and weigh in at 135 pounds. I will be graduating June 2020 from Calexico High School. I have been playing basketball since I was 4 years old and love the game as it has opened up so many opportunities for me. I have played with 2 Club teams as starting point guard as well Calexico Heat (6 year) and Calexico Prospects (3 years). My current GPA is 3.13 overall and scored a 1010 on my SAT's. I am very involved in my school culture. I am also part of Calexico High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) for the past 2 years I have been working with fair animals such as rabbits, goats, lambs pigs etc.. I also volunteer with the city of Calexico Parks and Recreation training and coaching young children the game of basketball on the weekends. Recently I attended a tryout and made the team for Student Athlete World USA basketball to compete in Europe in the World Games in June 2020.

This past 2019 Summer I competed in 3 tournaments and attended 3 university elite camps. First Tournament was in Yuma Arizona where we went 4-2. Second tournament was at Imperial CA. we went 6-0, and the last big tournament was at San Diego State University were we went against top High Schools like Pinnacle Arizona, at this tournament we went 4-3. This last tournament was my favorite it pushed me to a higher level of competition. The Camps I attended were Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Monterrey Bay and Breakthrough Basketball.

One of my goals and dreams is to play college basketball. I know my limitations as an athlete with my size, however I give 110% and earn my spot by been a leader in and out of the court. My main goal is to receive my college education and become a productive citizen.

Thank You,

Mathew James Pina

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
