Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Alexander.  Basketball is my passion and I have a lot offer. I have a strong work ethic and I am always ready to work hard and learn. I am a team player on and off the court. I have a strong basketball IQ and am able to read situations and make the best decision. No matter how the game is going I always find a way to stay effectively and contribute. Staying on point on defense, going for loose balls, staying focus, and keeping game energy for my team mates. With the passion I have for the sport and my hunger to play I know I can be a great asset for your team. I am ready!

Club Information

  • Seasons of Club Experience
  • 3 seasons
  • 2019 Defenders Sports Network (Whittier) (16U)
  • This year was my 8th grade season. This season was fun. I was able to play with the first team I started playing basketball with Whittier Thunder. I knew this team was not at the level of competition I was getting used to playing with my travel team. I took this season to improve my leadership skills. I took the role as their leader, I took a lot of my practice time to help my teammates on their skills and confident level. We did many of team work exercise as well individual skills. All of our hard work paid off as we took the season 9-1 and won first place. We couldn't play the final as its when covid-19 started. Deep in my heart I knew we could of won that game, my team and I were ready mentally and physically.
  • 2018 Whittier Runnin Rebles (NJB All Net)
  • This team was an All-Net Team. I was introduced to coach Max by coach Pete. This team was in a higher rank than coach Pete's recreational park team. Coach Pete knew I need to stay playing at a higher level and I started playing for both teams, Whittier Thunder with coach Pete and Runnin Rebels with coach Max. Both teams had different practice schedule and I never complaint or was late for any of their practices. At this time I was in the 7th grade, and played until end of my 8th grade. With team team was an All Net / Travel Team. We traveled out of state for tournaments we won some and lost some. It was a great experience playing with this team as the competition was at a different level. Since this team was already set, I was given the opportunity to play shooting guard. At first I was a bit lost as I was always with the ball/ setting the ball for my teammates. I was given a new challenge and took it. Right here I knew I still had a lot to learn.
  • 2016 Whittier Thunder (NJB) (Division 1)
  • My basketball journey, started when I was playing with Whittier Thunder since the summer 2016 when I was in the 4th grade. I played until I was in 8th Grade. Even though this club was recreational, our coach took us year round. While we were out for the season, we would practice the fundamentals of basketball and he also set up tournaments. My first season with coach Pete I was the back-up point guard. Since he saw I really wanted to learn the game of basketball, because I would come in early to practice and be the last one to leave the gym. On me second season I improved so much that coach Pete gave me the starting point guard. Playing with coach Pete gave me the confidence I needed to always try to be the best on the court. All my time playing with coach Pete I was their starting point guard, averaging 15+ point and 7+ assists with at least 2-3 steals. I was really hungry to learn and be the best player, that coach Pete talked to coach Jaime who ran the Whittier Thunder 7th graders team to allow me to practice with them. I was only in the 5th grade running with 7th grades. I practiced in both teams and earned my spot the following year with this team. Playing with the older kids gave me the confident to play at a higher level and understand the meaning of hard work.

  • Weekly Basketball Training with Coach Heather Pilcher - Assistant Coach for Whittier College Womans Basketball
  • 1 year
  • Trained with coach Heather twice a week for 1 1/2 hour. We started our training from warm-up followed by skill drills from ball handling to shooting doing both stationary to movement with and without the ball. She was also a coach in the club Defenders, we would talk and go over the game we had over the weekend; such what I did good and what I need to work on. With Coach Heather not only I worked on my basketball skills to keep them sharp but I also learn how to be more disciplined on and off the court. She lay out a visual what is a student-athlete and the commitment I need to put not only for my self but for the team as well. We did not only did basketball drills but in one way another we would touch the mental and emotional part of basketball. The what and how to prepare for college level.

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsI am a Honor Roll Student. I have also taken Honors Biology, Honors Architecture. I always had trouble and was always nervous to present projects in front of class and to speak in public. To many people speaking in front of an audience can be a phobia. I am happy to say I have achieved and deleted this fear. Now I am comfortable speaking and doing presentations in public. This achievement may seem small to many, but for me its a huge accomplishment, as it always affected my class work. Now, that I have achived to get rid of this fear, I am now a better & more confident student.
  • ActivitiesDuring one of my elective class, I took photography. I enjoyed it that much that I volunteered to be school photographer. During summer, I participated in many community service such as, beach, park and street cleaning. Another event I enjoy, is helping churches help set up for their carnivals fundraising & food distribution during the holidays.
