Jason Gilbert '12 Recruiting Profile

I am a 6'0" point guard from Santa Cruz, CA. I play for a small academic-based school named Pacific Collegiate where I will be entering my senior year next fall. I received the MVP award for my league last season while also being all-league the last three and starting at the point on varsity since freshman year. My current GPA is an unweighted 3.96 which includes 5 AP classes, plus 3 more that I will take next year. I also compete in varsity volleyball where I was all-league the last two years as an outside hitter, and track where I was the league champion in the triple jump and got second in the long jump (both of which I made sectionals for).  In basketball, my team has been undefeated league champs for the last two years but unfortunately we lost very early both years in sectionals. As captain and leader of my team, I feel it is my responsibility to take PCS to where it's never gone before and win meaningful games and go deeper in sectionals. Although I upped my scoring average from two years ago to last year to compensate for the graduating seniors, I still am a pass-first point guard who would rather create for my teammates then for myself. Over this summer, I have expanded my defensive game and plan on not only guarding the best opposing players (like last season), but completely shutting them down defensively. Academics are a major priority for me as I'm looking down the medical road as my career path. Right now I'm thinking about attending smaller schools that are on the west or east coast but ideally I would go almost anywhere to play basketball for a school with high educational standards.
