Since the sixth grade, I knew that I had a burning passion for the sport of basketball. At my small private school in the seventh grade, another middle schooler and I were both being looked at by the high school team to be pulled up for the last three games of the season, but they could only take one. I knew I had to work both harder and smarter to be able to overcome this adversity. I put the hours in everyday in the gym, and when the time came, it was clear I was the better choice.
Ever since then, I knew that hard work can and will take me far. Therefore, since the eighth grade, almost everyday before school I set my alarm for 5 AM, and I go to the gym to shoot, to dribble, and even to work on defensive slides with a rubber band around my legs. Then, after school I hit the weight room. During my summer schedule I have team practice from 9:30-11:30, weight training from 1-2, and then I will spend a minimum of 2-3 hours on my own working on my individual skills. Many coaches have told me that I am the hardest worker they have ever met, and that I am a great leader as well as an example for my teammates. I know my work ethic and character can take me to the collegiate level to both compete and grow as a person.
