Junior season Sophomore seasonPersonal Statement
Playing last year on varsity as a sophomore provided me with a good experience as a springboard. Thus far, in my junior year I have enjoyed some success on the basketball court currently averaging a double double in points and rebounds and shooting 55% from the field. I was also thrust into a leadership role in being one of the three team captains. Last season was challenging in that we had a young team and we were very inexperienced on the varsity level. This season we have high expectations and are looking forward to the possibility of getting to the state championship level.
Academically, the challenges continue as I am now taking classes at the collegiate level since I am near completion of my high school required courses. Fortunately I have been able to balance academics and athletics and maintain a 4.4 high school GPA. My plan is to graduate high school with high honors and an AA degree.

- Dorian James – 6’5 – Winter Haven: One of several talented underclassmen at Winter Haven, the sophomore is more effective within fifteen feet of the basket at this stage but will certainly get more comfortable out on the perimeter as he gains experience. While athletic with a generous wing span, it’s quite apparent that he is still growing into his body doesn’t move as fluidly as some of his contemporaries. Still, James gets things done as he scores well close to the basket, is very active on the offensive glass, and is an effective shot blocker at this stage, at least against players his size or smaller. While we watched James play he didn’t show much in the terms of ball-handling or shooting skills but that isn’t surprising given the up-and-down nature of these types of events.
