Everyone faces challenges in life, but it is up to you to overcome those barriers. In fact, I learned first-hand. As an incoming freshman, I was placed on the varsity team for my outstanding performance. Being the new kid, I had to learn how to gain the respect of my fellow teammates. This was not an easy process but overcoming this obstacle allowed for me to establish a sense of leadership. Never would I have thought that I, a 5’11- point guard would become captain, let alone the player everyone counted on. I may not be the biggest player on the court but I am faster, and more determined to give it my all. Like a wise athlete once stated, “if you do not believe in yourself, no one will do it for you” (Kobe Bryant). My goal is to play at the highest level I possibly can. I am looking for an institution where I can balance basketball as well as my academics. If I am admitted to your institution, this would be a great opportunity for me to showcase my talent and become a well-rounded individual. My desire to succeed in my academics is just as strong as my desire to succeed in basketball.
I am very passionate about basketball and have been for a very long time now. I remember the crowd so vividly as I reflect back to my childhood. The crowd surrounded me in astonishment as I made not one nor two shots but three shots back to back. At that moment my mother realized that I was something special. She then signed me up for club basketball and the basketball team at my recreational center. Playing what I love soon became an outlet for me. In fact, I looked up to many well-known athletes like Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, and Kobe Bryant. Their fondness for the sport made me want to work harder on my craft. This, then led me to train daily to feed my hunger for the sport. During my club ball years and into high school, I’ve always exceeded beyond my grade level. My skills have always surpassed the average player. I’ve also always had the advantage of being a role model to my peers and someone you can always depend on. I believe I have the skills to be a great addition to any team. I look forward to my future college- athlete years. I hope I’m a great asset for your team.
