I have always enjoyed playing sports. I was about five years old when I started playing soccer. As I got a bit older I also started playing baseball and basketball. I began to try other sports like track and lacrosse. From the 2nd grade to the 7th, lacrosse was the sport I spent the most time playing, but I still enjoyed basketball. After playing school basketball for my 7th and 8th grade years, I decided to focus on basketball, which was a sport I was participating in just not as seriously. I really enjoy basketball and look forward to playing at the next level.
When I was younger, I was almost always the tallest kid on the team no matter which sport. For basketball, that translated to me being taught to rebound and play the post position. Now I am working on improving my ball handling, and also my shooting ability. I like that I can see myself improve in areas by putting in the hard work and repetition. I am always willing to put in the maximum effort to be stronger and keep improving. I feel like weight training at the next level would be a great challenge that I look forward to.
A unique characteristic I’d say I have is that I strive to be perfect. I have found that this can be bad in some ways, but also good in many others. I have learned that when I make a mistake on the court, I have to learn from that mistake and be able to move on to the next play. I always try to set my expectations high, both on and off the court. In the classroom, this helps me strive to be the best student I can be, to give the most effort I am able, and to do my best and it shows. My academic goal for high school is to achieve a 4.1 and I am fairly close to this goal. I have not set many goals for college yet, but will definitely begin to set some soon.
I also enjoy the other dimensions that basketball offers like meeting new teammates, being part of a group working to better themselves and the others around them, and traveling. I enjoy making new friends on the court and I feel like playing at the next level would allow me to meet new people at college and make many more new friends. The locker room experience with friends is always fun, and memories are made not only on the court, but off it as well. Win or lose, I love playing basketball. And nothing is better that celebrating a win with your team. Playing basketball in college would be such a great experience, and I look forward to the opportunity to do so in the near future!
