My name is Evan Altman and I am currently a junior at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
I was introduced to basketball at a very young age. I remember traveling with my family to my older cousin’s high school outside Boston to watch him play. He was one of the smaller players on the floor but was quick, hard nose and a fearless shooter. I got excited watching him play and when my dad asked if I wanted to play in a local church league I jumped at the chance.
Growing up with basketball whether it be high school , AAU, or the different clubs has allowed me to form lasting relationships both on and off the court. Relationships and friend groups that I would not normally have had the chance to develop and enjoy. I feel like the interaction with these different clubs, teams and coaches have also allowed me to grow not just my knowledge of basketball with its different strategies but also has taught me how to adjust to different personalities and life situations.
I come from a family that puts a high value on academics, My mother is a life long educator and current Head of School. My father stresses the importance of always doing my best in whatever I do. Both my parents have always taught my sister and I that the choices we make today will impact the choices we have in the future. As a result, I believe the extra effort I put into both my academics and my basketball now and in college will give me a good foundation for achieving my aspirations and goals in whatever career I choose.
On the court, I feel what separates me most from other players is my leadership abilities. I can be that guy that coaches and players rely on to encourage, teach, and bring together as a team. What makes me different from other recruits is the strength I have to not back down from a challenge and never quit. I take pride in my defense in being able to guard 4 out of the 5 positions. I am a tenacious rebounder and enjoy doing it on both ends of the court. I always push myself and those around me to be the best athletes on and off the court.
In looking forward to the future, I have always had an interest in studying business and finance at a college that is the best fit for me. I also have a goal of being able to play basketball at the next level. With hard work, motivation, and goal setting I know I can make that happen.
