Personal Statement

Dear Coaches,

My name is Larry Dwight Cole Jr, and I am excited to express my interest in joining your team.  As a shooting guard in both middle and high school, I have been fortunate to develop my skills and passion for the game and I am eager to continue this journey at the collegiate level.

Academically, I am committed to pursuing a degree in Business Management.  I have always valued the importance of education and believe that attending college offers the perfect environment to challenge myself both in the classroom and on the court.  My academic goals include maintaining a strong GPA, engaging in research or internship opportunities, and ultimately preparing for a successful career in Business Management.

Athletically, I aim to contribute significantly to your team.  My experiences playing basketball and football for Patrick Taylor's Varsity team, where I served as captain, have equipped me with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of teamwork.  I am dedicated to continuous improvement and am always seeking ways to enhance my performance through rigorous training, feedback from coaches, and studying the strategies of the game.  I believe that my work ethic, resilience, and passion for basketball will make me a good candidate for your team.

What sets me apart from other recruits in terms of character, athletics, and academics.

Character: One aspect that truly distinguishes me is my unwavering commitment to integrity and perseverance.  Growing up, I faced two hard challenges, including losing my father at the age of nine and undergoing to ACL surgeries my freshman and junior year of high school. These experiences have taught me the value of resilience, hard work, and a positive mindset.  Despite these tough challenges, I was nominated for All District 1st team.  I have always approached every obstacle as an opportunity to grow and learn, and this mindset has become a core part of who I am.

Athletics: Athletically, my versatility and relentless work ethic set me apart. While specializing as a shooting guard in basketball, I have also played football and ran track to develop a well-rounded skill set.  This cross-training has not only enhanced my physical capabilities but also provided me with a broader understanding of team dynamics and strategy.

Academics: I am driven by a passion for learning and a commitment to excellence. I have maintained a 4.1GPA,  and graduated Magna Cum Laude, while taking on a challenging course load that included gifted, AP and dual enrollment classes.  These experiences have not only enriched my knowledge but also honed my time management and organizational skills.  I am confident that my ability to balance rigorous academics with high-level athletics demonstrates my dedication and ability to thrive in a collegiate environment.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to further discuss how I can be a valuable addition to your program.
