Hi,
My name is Seamus Raftice, and I am currently a Junior at Greely High School in Cumberland, Maine. I have loved basketball since I was 5 or 6 years old. In that time our high school team has been very successful winning 3 State championships. I am a goal oriented person and like to set the bar high in both sports and academics. It was my goal since middle school to make the Varsity basketball team as a sophomore, which I succeeded in doing last year. I started about half of the games in the Covid shortened season.
I also run Varsity Cross Country for our high school team and play baseball. One thing I loved about X-C was the training. We run 30+ miles per week, which puts me in great shape for the basketball season. I also enjoyed some success making Varsity my sophomore year and helping our team win the Class B Western Maine Championships last year (no States due to Covid). This fall, as a returning Varsity runner, I helped the team as the #2 runner qualifying again for the State meet as a team, while also qualifying individually as one of the Top 30 (19th) runners in my class.
I have played AAU basketball for the same team since 5th grade – Next Level Athletics. As much as I love playing for my school team, I have really enjoyed playing on the AAU circuit as well. It required that I learn to adapt and play with a variety of players, as well as allowing me to play in many competitive tournaments.
Academically I have always strived to do well. Greely High School is consistently ranked as one of the top high schools in the state, as well as the country, and I have consistently made the honor roll since being in HS. All while taking a mix of AP as well as IB Baccalaureate courses and maintaining a 3.75 GPA.
In college I intend to study Business in some capacity. I love the Northeast but would be willing to attend school anywhere in the country that may be a good fit both academically and athletically. I look forward to continuing my work ethic at the college level and am very excited for my next two years of HS hoops as well as what the next challenge presents!
Thank you,
Seamus
