Personal Statement

I am a 10th Grader who loves basketball.  I have been playing as a point-guard and shift to a shooting guard as my coaches play me.  I am 5 foot 10 inches and 172 pounds and growing.
Right now, for basketball, I am concentrating on developing my all around game but putting a lot of time in on my mechanics, strength / speed / stamina training .  I most of the time finish team "suicides" a lap ahead of my teammates but I also encourage us all to run even when only a few of the guys have to run them.  As a guard I believe I need to control the game and not be intimidated or rushed into making mental errors.
As a 10th Grader I am on my school's Varsity team. I was selected for my conference AllStar roster and in an intramural game between the All Stars I scored 18 pts, was 7/9 from the field and 0 turnovers.
In 2012, I was selected to be a part of the 16U Maccabi USA team as one of three alternates.
This year, I have been selected to be on the 18U Maccabi USA team and we will be playing in an international tournament in Berlin, Germany in August.
I love ACC basketball but I was born in Kansas so I love them too.  Really I just appreciate smart and well played basketball. I don't have a single school or school type that I am interested in -- I am still too young to know what I want yet.
As a student I am just working hard to get my GPA up. I do not have a career path  yet so my college major is also not yet defined.  I do want to go to a good academic school. I believe in hard work.  You get what you put into it. There are plenty of talented players out there who thought they could just slide int a spot and now have nowhere to go. I am not going to be one of those guys. I was out from school for 3 months last year but I wont let that slow me down.
I missed 3 months of school last year due to an injury that required me to have 2 pins in my foot that were then removed.  I was only allowed to get back into basketball in mid-April of 2014.  I played this summer for an AAU team called Maryland ATTAC, and I represented Greater Washington DC as a starting guard in the 2014 JCC Maccabi games where our team won the silver(6/1) and where I had one 30 point game and two 22 point games. Though I love scoring... who doesn't?... I really like preventing the other team from moving the ball or taking it away from them, and a "thread the needle" pass to a teammate who is open for a split second, for a score IS basketball.
Thanks for reading this -- I will update this as the season gets close.
