André Brooks '23 Recruiting Profile

I have learned many lessons as a student-athlete, and I know it has made me a better person.  As a freshman, I was expected to play Varsity Basketball, but due to a minor injury, I missed those try-outs and was told to lead the Freshman Team as a Team Captain.  That season we were able to beat some of the top private schools in the area for the first time ever, such as Dematha and Bishop O’Connell.  That year I learned how important it was to lead by example and that has stuck with me ever since. By the end of that season, I was moved to Varsity for our post-season.

As a sophomore, my entire basketball season was taken due to COVID.  So instead, running track, playing AAU Basketball, and playing Spring 7on7 all in one season, allowed me to continue to compete (which I love) and showed me that adversity can open doors that may not have been available otherwise. 

Being a starter my Junior season, allowed me the ability to grow as a more well-rounded player while helping my team become Regional 4A East Champions for the first time in 9 years.  That experience showed me the importance of believing in our coach’s philosophy and buying into a system that is built on strong character, dedication, and commitment, both on and off the court.

I pride myself on being a coachable player, a true team leader, and a dependable teammate.  I am looking for a program that is a good fit for me academically and athletically.    As a 3-sport athlete, I believe that along with my hunger for excellence and my strong work ethic, I can be a great addition to any team!
