Hi my name is Ben MacKinnon and I am a senior, and varsity captain at Innovation Academy Charter School in Tyngsboro, MA. My GPA is currently 4.2 and I am interested in pursuing the pre-med track in college. I hope to be a PA someday in the sports medecine field.
I have had a love for basketball since my grandfather taught me how to dribble with my head up at the age of three, and told me never to be a showboat. I have played team basketball since Kindergarten and to this day play year round. From town teams in my younger years to JV/Varsity teams in Middle and High School at Innovation, I have always hustled and been a team player. I have played in Rec. leagues every summer and "Sunday Night Hoops" in my town. When my parents could afford it, I played AAU for Mass Rivals. My best position is either shooting guard or small forward, however I am versatile and happy to take on supporting roles wherever they are needed. Defensive play and hustle are my strong suits, and I am also a strong rebounder, passer and am aggressive driving to the hoop. Last year, I overcame injury and obstacles and earned a starting Varsity role by the end of the year. I helped lead my High School Varsity team to the third round of the state tournament, the best finish in school history! I was just asked to be the captain of the Varsity team for the 1018-19 season by my head coach, Jeffrey Marquez. I have recently coordinated the summer and fall leagues for our school, and have done well in both.
In addition to basketball, I interned for Lowell General Hospital last spring with the physical therapy department. This year I am interning for them again in the Orthopedic/casting department. I am the secretary and community service outreach director for the National Honor Society, and the treasurer and event planner for Student Government. I also have three part time jobs...seasonally as a summer camp counselor, sandwich maker at a local sub shop, and also work at the adjoining ice cream shop.
I live my life by being humble, kind and respectful, but am a strong leader when needed. I will always take on a leadership role when needed and am an incredibly hard worker. I am excited to see where my future will take me!
