I remember it like it was yesterday, my 4th birthday picking up my first basketball. That’s when it all started. Ever since then I’ve been so passionate about the game of basketball. It’s something I always think about as well. My father was really into basketball and he was the one who got me into the game of basketball. Hearing his stories about his high school experiences was cool and was something I wanted to be apart of. My father and I spent multiple summers working on my game and he’s help me progress in large amounts and still continues to do that. My moms as well, they’re into the game and they always push me to get better everyday. If it weren’t for them, where I’m at today wouldn’t have been possible. They’ve sacrificed a lot for me to get to where I am and can’t thank them enough. Something that makes me proud but most importantly thankful, was this past season, my sophomore year being given the opportunity to play Varsity basektball was unbelievable. Being able to compete at that level was a huge accomplishment I thought because I knew how much work I had put in but then again I also knew that I was capable of competing with older guys and I felt as if it showed. As a student athlete this past season I had many goals and aspirations for myself but not only for myself but for my team as well. I may have been the youngest on the team but there were things coach needed to be done and I had to take ownership of those things. That’s one thing that the game of basketball taught me. Ownership and accountablility, as well as leadership. There were going to be situations where I had to do what I was asked to do and I knew that coming in, it was just a matter of time before I grew and met those expectations. That’s another thing basketball has done for me. It’s help me grow as an athlete as well as a person. It’s taught me a lot of things about myself that I may not have learned elsewhere. To some people basketball may be just a game, but to me it’s far more than just a game, it’s a lifestyle and something that I want to be able to do for as long as possible.
As a student through my high school career so far things have been leading in the right direction. School is important to me and is something that I take very serious. I know that at the end of the day athletics isn’t always going to be there so what needs to be done is for me to take action in the classroom and get done what needs to be done. I have always had high expectations for myself when it comes to my education, although I try not to stress it too much. I try to maintain the highest GPA I can throughout my years of high school. Not too impress colleges but just because of who I am as a person. Anything I do I try to give it as much effort as possible. I also try to keep a steady head, don’t get too high, don’t get too low, I know that everything won’t go the way I want it to so I try my best because that’s all I can do and whatever happens, happens. Moving forward and looking into the future whether it be with sports or academics I want to go to a college where I am able to make an impact right off the bat. Finding that perfect fit college is something that I favor. With the characteristics and skill sets that I have, I feel as if I am able to do a lot for your college. If I am given the opportunity I will make the best of it putting forth maximum effort at all times looking to make a difference.
