Like any young baller, I've had dreams of playing in college since I was just 5. In face, my mom used to question me whenever I was unsure of anything I was doing and say "What would LeBron do". Now that I am a young man, I realized that basketball is an amazing platform to build key characteristics that will become part of the man and mentor I hope to become.
Yes, I can dribble and shoot, but I believe my basketball IQ, combined with my unselfish style to get to the W is my greatest strength. I am vocal on the court and am a positive influence to my teammates. I am young for my grade, having just turned 15 on July 22nd, and know that I play with kids that are 2 and sometimes 3 years older, I believe this lends to my development and the fact that I am continuing to grow sets me up for longer-term success.
I have self-awareness and know the areas that I need to work in. I train daily, including weights, speed and agility, and skill development; and see a sports nutritionist and a mindset coach. My dedication to ensuring that I continue to grow on and off the court is of the utmost importance to me as I find opportunities to showcase my ability to give back by illustrating my love for the game and my positive attitude toward life.
(I have held a 5 year Annual Julius Ellis Basketball camp in my neighborhood to teach teamwork and skills to younger athletes the ages of 5-10.)
My coaches say it best:
9th Grade Edina High School - Coach Moore
'Julius is a hoops junkie in the best possible way! A great vocal leader, in addition to being an agile big who can stretch the floor with his shooting. As he continues to develop his handle, quickness, and interior post moves he will only grow as a player and threat. Great character and very coachable young man!"
