I have big aspirations to play college basketball while I complete a degree in Business Finance. I am currently a freshman at Gustavus Adolphus College and was recruited to play basketball this year. It was an extremely shortened basketball season for the MIAC due to Covid and many quarantine situations. The Gustavus varsity got to play 5 games and our JV only got 3 games. I was the leading scorer in all 3 of our JV games and thoroughly enjoyed my team and coaches. Even though we only played a few games, being on the team was the greatest thrill and the players are my closest friends on campus. However, the cost of attending Gustavus is more than my family and I can afford now. I had a lot of outside scholarships from high school my first year but it ended up costing way more than we planned for the next 3 years. I have talked with Head Coach Hansen about this and he understands that I am torn between my love for Gustavus and basketball and the cost and debt that I will accrue there. I am looking to transfer and play basketball. I will be able to afford a public college instead, hopefully, play basketball and get my Business Finance degree as I work to be a Financial Analyst or Advisor after graduation.
I high school I was always a three-sport athlete: football (quarterback), basketball (forward), and track (200, 400, and pole vault). I have focused on AAU basketball in the summers and do traveling AAU basketball throughout the year as well. I had two very successful football seasons as the starting Quarterback. But I had an extremely successful Senior Year of basketball breaking many high school records and scoring over 1000 points. I am very athletically inclined and have a strong basketball IQ and talent. I was a Varsity basketball starter as a sophomore and was always a leader on my team as Captain and leading scorer. I have excellent ball-handling skills, am strong under the basket as forward, but also a strong shooter from the 3 point line.
I am an overall stand-out athlete but also a stand-out student and leader. I have a high GPA now in college and had a 3.9 GPA in high school. I was active in many leadership roles with Student Council, Band, Choir, and FCCLA. I am highly competitive in everything I do! I pride myself on being organized and a leader on and off the court. My reputation is that of a hard-working student, considerate classmate, and extremely competitive athlete. I believe am different from other freshman transfer recruits because I am so well-rounded in athletics, academics, and the arts. I was awarded the Minnesota Section 1A Triple A Award my senior year. I believe my success comes from challenging myself and having a good balance in my life. However, my basketball drive and talent come from my sheer passion for basketball. It is my favorite thing to spend my time doing! I have loved to play basketball from a very young age. My grandfather played college basketball and I have always admired him his admirable qualities and never-ending work ethic.
