Ever since I saw the Timberwolves play, I knew basketball was my calling. That game wasn't just fun; it lit a fire in me. I saw what teamwork and dedication on the court looked like, and I wanted in. But my path here wasn't just about that game. It's also about where I come from and who inspires me daily—my mom.
I'm a second-generation immigrant, raised by my single mother alongside three older brothers. Life threw challenges our way, but my mom showed us what strength really means. She's been my rock and my biggest cheerleader, teaching me that hard work pays off. This lesson sticks with me, especially because I have a learning disability. It means I have to hustle more than others to keep up, both in class and in basketball. But seeing my mom overcome obstacles for our family makes me push harder.
In high school, I wasn't the best basketball player. Knowing this, I've put in extra hours, shooting hoops and running drills, because I'm determined to get better. My goal for college? To play basketball and push my limits further. I want to grow as a player and a person, contributing to a team that values hard work as much as I do.
What makes me different? It's my background and my attitude. Growing up with challenges made me resilient. I learned to face problems head-on and find ways to overcome them. This attitude extends to basketball. I'm always the first to arrive at practice and the last to leave, ready to listen, learn, and improve. I'm not looking to be just another player; I want to be a teammate who lifts others up, on and off the court.
My academic journey hasn't been smooth, but I've learned to tackle it with the same determination I bring to basketball. I work twice as hard to keep my grades up, using strategies I've developed to manage my learning disability. This persistence is something I'll bring to college, aiming to succeed academically and support my teammates to do the same.
In essence, I'm a fighter. I've faced life's challenges with a belief that hard work and determination can lead to success. This belief, instilled in me by my mother and fueled by my passion for basketball, is what I'll bring to your team. I'm ready to work hard, grow, and contribute in every way I can. Thank you for considering my application.
