I have loved basketball for as long as I can remember. It challenges me to push my limits physically and mentally, which I think makes me a better person. I am excited that basketball can help me get a good education from a good school. I also like being part of a team, and I have liked learning from upper classmen as we encouraged each other as a group.
Basketball is an example from my life where I’ve had to overcome obstacles. I failed to make my school’s team in 7th grade. I decided to make it my goal to work as hard as I could to make the team in 8th grade – and I did. By my sophomore year, I was starting on JV and coming off the bench on Varsity. I’ve been able to inspire others with my persistence and determination, and I believe that is how I am a leader on my high school and club teams.
Early on in middle school, I was behind in academics compared to my peers. Now I am ahead of most of them. That taught me that hard work and persistence paid off in the classroom, too.
Fitting in basketball, academics, and service in my community are all priorities for me. I’ve been lucky to be able to volunteer at my church’s food pantry, take part in neighborhood clean-ups and block parties in North Omaha, and I’ve been on several mission trips with my church’s youth group.
I believe the things that I have experienced so far have made me ready to be a great addition to your team.
