Personal Statement

Hello!  My name is Coleman Lemke.  I am 6'8 and can shoot from long range and score the ball at will, but can also take up lots of space on defense with my length.  I am currently the #1 Stretch big in Nevada and am ranked the #3 shooter in Nevada.  My goal is to play collegiate basketball at whatever college is the best fit for me and a school that believes in me.  I think I can fit in with any team that I play on and succeed with whatever team I play on.  I work hard in the in the class room and off the court I do charity work.

When I get to college I would like to either major in business or social works.  I pick business because I believe that I have the ability to see things from a different perspective than others.  I think in the business world the people with the ideas that no one has thought of are the best businessmen.  The reason I pick social works is because I have always had a love for helping others.  Whether that is doing charity work or getting people help that need it.

I think the thing that separates me and makes me stand out is my perseverance.  Basketball has presented me with many ups and downs.  If anything basketball has taught me that you can get through anything and need to be mentally strong.  This didn't just teach me to overcome obstacles in basketball, but it helped me overcome challenges in my life.  Such as, in the class room.  I sometimes will be doing homework for 3 hours straight trying to get a subject down and I feel like quitting, but once the test comes around I know I'm prepared for it.  It is the same thing in basketball for me.  When I am in a tough work out and I feel like taking a break or quitting I refuse to do it because for me the most satisfying part of preparing for something is knowing that you are going to succeed because of the work you put in.  So if I was on your team I know I could promise that I could persevere through anything put in front of me.
