Life is a journey and on our respective journeys, there are twists, bends, and bumps. At every turn, the picture of the destination is what keeps us going. My journey hasn’t been the smoothest. Each day I'm striving to one day live my dreams of playing basketball on a college level, pursuing a college degree, and becoming successful. However, I face many obstacles. The biggest of which is living in an environment with an abundance of negative people who tell me, "I can't do this or that." As a young man with goals and ambition, their opinions never really matter because I know the exact direction that I am going in life. Hence, staying focused is my only option, and getting to college and playing college basketball is my solution. 

   I know getting into college is not an easy task. I'm also aware attending college is very expensive, but I still refused to believe the negative opinions and expectations of the people from my background. One thing about having to wake up every day fighting for what you believe is that you develop grit with time. During my freshman year, I met a basketball trainer who believed in me and saw my potential to play basketball on a college level. To my surprise, someone finally said to me, "You can do that." Through my basketball trainer, I'm continuously learning how to further develop my basketball skills and my mindset to compete and win on the basketball court and in the game of life. As a result of my training, my confidence and my performance on the court has improved tremendously. My focus over the next two years is on improving my grades and basketball skills. I have always known that I can achieve anything if I put my mind to it. This is a quality any basketball team will stand to benefit from me as my positive vibes and winning mentality natural flows to everyone around me. The ultimate goal is to be a great asset with my positive attitude, strength of mind, courage, and work ethic for a college basketball program. I strongly believe, "I can do that." Think of me this way, if I could thrive in an unsupportive environment, then I will definitely flourish in the right one.
