Michael Cortright '23 Recruiting Profile

I have played basketball since 2nd grade, and the sport has always been a major part of my life. Being the son of a coach, I have developed into a player with a very high basketball IQ.  I see myself as an extension of the coach on the floor and have often been called upon to help ensure that my teammates are all “on the same page”.  I also know how to make the right play at the right time.  I am a student of the game who utilizes video/picture study in an effort to improve my performance.  In addition,  I can recognize and predict general movements of my opponent which ultimately helps our team.  As a result of hard work and repetition, I have become a consistent shooter from mid-range, behind the arc, and at the free throw line. I also know how to set my opponent up to finish at the rim.  Since I began weight training, I have been able to absorb contact and still complete the play. This has also helped me on the defensive end, as I am asked to defend in the post from time to time.   

While the information above is all about me, the TEAM is what comes first.  I seek out ways to encourage and applaud my teammates regularly.  I understand the importance of teamwork and will always do my part to help establish and maintain a positive team-first mindset in everyone. 

In the classroom,  I have worked just as hard to excel.  I believe that with my academics and overall skill set, I am an ideal student athlete for any institution.
