Growing up in New Mexico, there have been many times when people doubted my chances to play basketball at the collegiate level. I first fell in love with the game when I was 5, and never looked back. Always being the smallest player on every team that I have played on, I knew I had to do more than expected to make up for this height disadvantage. I have also always been a very good student and am smart, so I realized that I had to translate this on the court as well. In 8th grade, after a few of my classmates were pulled up to varsity and I was not, I knew I had to be the smartest player on every team that I am on to make up for this height disadvantage.
This setback left a chip on my back that I will never lose, and have continued to be dedicated not just to reaching certain goals, but to becoming the best self that I can be. I learned in 8th grade that I really do have to buy into the process, and then my goals can be achieved. I have also always been willing to make sacrifices for the team to be better and will play any role that is needed to win. It is my dream to play college basketball and I am willing to do anything to make this happen.
