Personal Statement

I envision my college years to be a personal growth period. My goal is to explore a science major that will position me well for the Marine Biology Field or Sports Management. On the field, I plan to be a dynamic player and positive influence on the team. As I grow both physically and mentally throughout my college basketball career, I will strive to be an asset in the weight room, practice, classroom, and on the court. Most importantly, I will conduct myself with honor and respect on and off the Court, knowing that the way I carry myself reflects my team, my coaches and the school I attend.

I have been playing basketball since I was 8 years old. Since I first stepped on the court, I have been determined to play at the collegiate level. I have strong ball handling skills, defensive effort, mental toughness, and a high basketball IQ. I am a team leader and lead by example in the classroom, practice, and on the court. I am very coachable and encourage my teammates as well as lead practice daily. I strive to be one of the hardest working recruits you will find. I am on the court at 6am every morning working on game reps and conditioning prior to school.

I am a multi-sport athlete playing Mens Volleyball, Cross Country, and Soccer. I also perform multiple community service events such as at the veteran's cemetery, the local nursing home, and church activities. I want to attend a college where I can push myself academically and on the basketball court. I am open to all potential opportunities to find the right college fit and compete with the highest level of competition possible. My goal is to be a great role model to my peers, my community, and give God the glory along with making my mom and dad proud.

  • John-Michael…I enjoyed watching your game. You appear to be a PG that can really fill it up offensively. You showed the ability to shoot 3’s efficiently and in volume off the catch and off the bounce from well beyond the high school 3-pt line. You are constantly in attack mode and carry a heavy role offensively for your team. You take pride in pressuring the ball on defense. I have a few areas of improvement I want to share with you for you to work on to continue to expand your game. First, I want to encourage you to be more selective when you drive to the paint, and more under control when you do so. I counted 4 drives where you drove into multiple defenders in poor spacing and you either turned it over or airballed an out of control shot. You clearly are the focal point of your teams offense. You should use this to your advantage. When you drive, bait the defense to help and then pass to an open teammate. In terms of selecting WHEN to attack, doing so without a ball screen or without any prior ball movement is asking for trouble. When you cross half court with the ball, the defense is at its strongest; it is set. They haven’t had to move or shift, and all eyes are on you. Attacking out of a ball screen or giving the ball up and getting it back will shift the defense and allow for more open driving lanes. When you do get deep into the paint, work on jump stopping or stride stopping…finish your drives on two feet. This way, you can stop and pivot if you don’t like your chances at scoring or if help rotates over. Last, look to give the ball up earlier in possessions and then cut and relocate off the ball. You are an excellent shooter…from what I could see, your most efficient shot is probably spot up 3 pointers. Steph Curry is an incredible ball handler and iso scorer, but he also hunts rhythm 3’s off the ball as well because these are the easiest, most efficient shot for him. Too often when you don’t have the ball, you stand still. This makes you easy to guard off the ball. After you pass, cut HARD, relocate, move to open places where driving teammates can find you. This will help you get some easier shots rather than having to go 1 on 1 every possession.

He has a great camp and should prove to be a asset to his team this year. Individual moves/ Creating separation - Quality use of triple threat position and pivoting. Quick first step. Must continue to improve Ballhandling, footwork and reading defenses Defensive Awareness - Staying in stance, Being aware of where his man is located and communicating loudly throughout the possession Balance & Communication - Great communicator; organizes and directs teammates well and communicates frequently. • A slim guard that can shoot it off the dribble. A guard that cuts and moves well on offense. He also passes and cuts well to the basket. He has solid handles. An active player that gets after it on both ends. Handles it well. Shoos the mid-range very effectively. Good passing ability. Took coaching very well. Needs to work hard in the weight room to add strength. Needs to keep working on his outside shooting and on the ball defense. Showed the ability to do both but at his size it's imperative that he becomes a master of each in order to give himself the best shot to play beyond HS. There are tens of thousands of guards fighting for the same spots he is and his ability to become a knock down outside shooter and lock down defender will be huge.

  • Heady guard with a good feel for the game. Low to the ground player that has really nice pace with the ball. Can score it from multiple levels on the floor and can really stretch the defense with his range from 3. Playmaker for others and finds teammates in scoring situations. Really good finisher around the rim with either hand and has a variety of finishes to beat bigger players rotating over. Confident ball handler and shooter that gets to his spots on the floor. Uses his stature to his advantage on both ends of the floor..beating defenders on drives while being able to really pressure the ball on the defensive end. Competitive player that makes a lot of winning plays. Has a chance to become a really good player over the next couple high school seasons! Just continuing to challenge yourself in your all-around game. Polish up areas of your game that will need to be sharp at the next level such as ball handling, reading the game and getting open. Work daily on your jumpshot as the speed increases at the next level, there will be less of an opportunity to get shots off and therefore preparation and readiness to score will be essential. Breakdown film on yourself to be able to find areas of weakness and strengths on the floor for yourself. Keep working!!
