Personal Statement

I am a senior at Westwood High School in Austin, Texas.  I have played basketball and baseball for all four years and have been on each varsity team the last two years.  I am the Fellowship of Christian Athletes president at our school, and I have a great passion for Christ; I am very serious about my education, in my high school career I have maintained a 3.97 GPA and taken many pre-AP and AP courses at the 47th ranked high school in the nation. I have already been accepted to the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. I have had a passion for basketball all my life and have thought greatly about becoming a coach after college; I know a lot about the game and love to study it whenever I can. I also love working with kids, so I believe being a coach may be my calling in life; So, I am looking for a school where I can be a part of a successful program, while receiving a very high education at the same time; I was a First Team All-District 16-5A selection and helped lead our team to its first winning season in 10 years; We won more district games this year than we have in the last 8 years combined and although we fell two points shy of making the playoffs, and our team goal, we as a group of senior re-established a winning tradition at our school.  For district play this year, I was second on our team in scoring with 11.7 PPG, first in field goal percentage at 57%, first in three-point percentage at 41%, second in rebounds, with 5.3 per game, second in assists with 1.7 per game, and had the fewest turnovers among starters with 19; I had a team high 7, 3-point baskets in one game and high point games of 28, 27, 21, and 20 points during the season. I was team captain and also named Academic All-District and All-State and received my school's Academic Excellence Award. So, I know how to work hard on the court and the class room. I was also All-District in baseball as a pitcher and first baseman. I view myself as a player who can contribute to any team through my knowledge of the game, my long-range and free throw shooting, rebounding, and decision making ability. But mostly through my leadership, and work ethic; I have always prided myself and bettered myself to be one of the smartest, hardest working, and most sportsman-like player on the floor every game; Every day I welcome the challenge of getting better, I am usually the first one in the gym every morning, and I actually have a key to the lights because I get there before our coach so often; I intend on having a very successful career in the future and I know you will not regret having me on your team.
