Hello,
My name is Cameron Crane. I am in the 11th grade. When I was 6 years old, I was told that I had ADHD, Dyslexia, and an unspecified learning disablity. The majority of my time in school, I was in some sort of resource classes. When I was told that I had these problems, it was also the first year I started playing basketball and football. I was good at both sports and both sports provided the confidence that I needed and lacked in school. Although I was good at both sports, my love and passion is basketball.
When I was younger, my mom put me on medication. When I was 11 years old, I decided that I did not want to take medication. My mom supported my decision. She told me that if I did not want to take medicine, then I have to work really hard to have self control. Over the years, my mom slowly moved me out of resource classes into regular classes. By the time I was in 9th grade, I was completely in regular classes. My 9th grade year, I went to tutoring every morning and after school and my mom worked me at home to teach me what I did get in class. I am proud to say, I was able to obtain a 3.6 GPA. My 10th grade year, I completed the year with a 3.5 GPA. I was also invited to be in the National Society of High School Scholars.
My mom has raised my brother, sister, and myself by herself. I want nothing more to make her proud. I attend church every Sunday, and I am a junior deacon at my grandfather's church. I have a goal to go to college to be a film maker. Art is also a passion that I have.
I feel that I would make a great candidate for your team, because I am not just a basketball player. I know how to work hard and the importance of having a good work ethic. I am determined to set a good example and set the bar high for my brother and my sister. I know that just because I am from a single parent home, was told that I have a learning disability, and I have to work 10 times harder than the next student, does not mean I am handicapped in any kind of way. My grandparents told me two things my entire life: 1. Defeat is not an option. 2. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. This is my motivation that I live by every day.
Thank you,
Cameron Crane
